Back in June of 1993, I wrote “Half-Hour History of Straight Eights” for Special Interest Autos. I decided not to stop there but to compile a compete Encyclopedia of Eights (1903-1955) that would list every production model eight-cylinder automobile engine.  I also added a few racing eights, aircraft eights, and eight-cylinder boat engines to provide a context for production automobile engines. Including the introduction, the Encyclopedia of Eights is 92 pages, describing over 300 engines. Initially, my first draft was sent out to interested members of the Society of Automotive Historians who offered many suggestions and corrections.
